Beef Ularthiyathu/Beef Dry Fry

Beef is one of my very favourites,among meat.And one of my very favourite ways of cooking it is by making beef ularthiyathu!
Its a very simple and mouthwatering dish.This recipe is from my amma’s kitchen.Its a very easy to make recipe and goes very well with rice or even chapathis!And I guess how ever hard I try to become a vegetarian,this is one dish that keeps pulling me back into the non vegetarian category 🙂 Go ahead and try this carefree,easy peasy Beef Ularthiyathu!!
Ingredients :
Beef – 1/2 kg.
Onion – 1 big(Sliced finely)
Shallots – 7 -8(diced)
Ginger – 1 tbsp(crushed)
Garlic – 1 tbsp(crushed)
Curry leaves
Black pepper – 1 tbsp(Crushed)
Turmeric Powder – 1/2 tsp.
Water – (1 1/4 cup)
Coconut oil
Chilli powder – 1 1/2 tsp.
Coriander powder – 3 tsp.
Garam masala powder – 1 1/2 tsp.
Vinegar – 1 tsp
  1. In a pressure cooker,cook beef along with turmeric powder,crushed black pepper ,vinegar,salt and water for 5-6 whistles or till tender.
  2. When pressure releases,open the lid and keep on flame until all the stock is absorbed and keep it aside.
  3. In a pan,heat coconut oil,and add onion,shallots,ginger,garlic and curry leaves and saute till the onions becomes transparent.
  4. Now add chillipowder,coriander powder,garam masala powder and saute on medium flame till the mixture darkens(say for 4-5 minutes).Now add the cooked beef to this and saute well for about 10-15 minutes,alternating the flame from high to low until the masala clings on to the beef and the dish darkens.
  5. Serve hot with rice or even chapathis/roti and Enjoy!!
Adding some coconut slices(1/2 inch) to the beef while sauting(step 3),will give an authentic naadan taste to the dish!!
